Essentials for Clearing Customs:

  • The Commercial Invoice:
Have a detailed Commercial Invoice on hand - The Commercial Invoice contains a vast amount of detailed information about your product, its manufacturer, origin, destination, HTS code, and more. This information is crucial, so if you don't already have one, download it here .

  • Power of Attorney:
Posey International needs power of attorney over your shipment to classify and clear your goods through customs. We also need this privilege to pay duty on your behalf. Download the POA here, complete the form, and fax it to us.

  • AWB/Bill of Lading:
This is the "boarding pass" from the shipping line or airline that your freight is onboard their vessel or airplane. The "Arrival Notice" notifies Posey International that your freight has arrived at an ocean port or airport, and is ready to clear. An AWB/BL also provides a tracking number to locate your freight and shipping details.

  • Harmonized Tariff (HTS) code:
Posey International can find and classify the harmonized tariff code for you, but things move more quickly if you have this information available on your commercial invoice, or submit it in your quote inquiry. Find your HTS code here .

Export:
  • Shipper's Letter of Instruction:
The SLI is vital to proper shipping. It provides the forwarder with your detailed, written instructions and ensures that all security measures are adhered to and regulations satisfied. download it here

  • The Commercial Invoice:
Just as in imports, the commercial invoice provides the details of the shipment for customs purposes both in the U.S. and in the foreign destination. This information is crucial, so if you don't already have one, download it here

  • Power of Attorney:
If you already have an import POA in place, an additional one is not needed for exports but if we do not hold one for your company, we must have it to be able to file the SED on your behalf. download it here complete the form, and fax or email it to us.

  • Schedule B code:
Posey International can find and classify the Schedule B code for you, just as in imports but it should appear on the commercial invoice. Please keep in mind that the ultimate responsibility for the accuracy of these codes falls to the exporter but we are happy to help.

EXPORTS COMPLIANCE:

Given our global economy and the international political climate that exists, the United States government takes compliance with its export laws and regulations very seriously. Our government rightfully expects the exporting community to partner with it to help protect our national security. Companies both large and small face potentially large fines, civil penalties, and possible criminal prosecution if a violation of our export laws occurs.

Our nation's export laws are very complex. Compliance is not easy for those unfamiliar with the legal nuances of complicated regulations such as International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR).   Read more...

Importer Security Filing (ISF) - 10+2:

10+2 is an entirely new business process expanding the importer's sphere of accountability back to the point of stuffing. 10+2 is meant to enhance cargo targeting by requiring additional data elements prior to loading at the foreign port. Improved targeting of high risk shipments will result in fewer exams for low risk shipments. 10+2 further identifies the parties in the supply chain and dovetails with the 24 Hour Rule to provide more concise descriptions of commodities being shipped to the U.S.   Read more...
